Why Should I Fear

A faith-building Bible study on the theme: “Why Should I Fear”, designed to help us trust God’s presence, power, and promises when fear tries to take hold.

📖 Bible Study: Why Should I Fear?

🔑 Key Verse:

Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”

💡 1. Understanding the Nature of Fear

Fear is a natural response to uncertainty, danger, or loss.
But faith does not eliminate fear — it redefines it.

  • Fear says: “I’m alone.”
  • Faith says: “God is with me.”
  • Fear says: “I can’t handle this.”
  • Grace says: “God’s strength is enough.”

Isaiah 41:10“So do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you…”

🛡️ 2. Why God Says “Do Not Be Afraid” So Often

The Bible says “Do not fear” over 300 times—not because there’s nothing to fear, but because:

  • God is greater than what you fear (1 John 4:4)
  • He promises His presence (Joshua 1:9)
  • Fear paralyzes, but faith moves forward

📘 3. Biblical Examples of Fear Confronted by Faith

🔹 David – Psalm 23:4

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil…”

He faced giants and betrayal, yet found confidence in God’s presence.

🔹 Joshua – Joshua 1:9

“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

🔹 The Disciples – Mark 4:39–40

In the storm, Jesus asked, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

God isn’t angry when we’re afraid — but He invites us to replace fear with trust.

🌊 4. What Should Replace Fear?

  • Trust in God’s character – He is good and faithful
  • Confidence in His promises – He will never leave us
  • Peace in His presence – We are not alone

2 Timothy 1:7“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind.”

✍️ Reflection Questions:

  1. What fears are holding me back from living boldly in faith?
  2. Do I tend to focus more on what-if or who God is?
  3. What specific promise of God can I cling to this week?

🙏 Prayer:

“Lord, You know the fears I carry—those I speak and those I hide. Thank You that You do not condemn me for being afraid, but You invite me to trust You. Help me shift my focus from fear to faith, and rest in Your strength, not mine. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Takeaway Truth:

I may feel fear, but I do not have to live in fear. God’s presence is greater than my panic.

A faith-filled poem titled “Why Should I Fear”, reflecting the confidence we can have in God’s presence, protection, and promises—even in uncertain times:

Why Should I Fear

Why should I fear what lies ahead,
When God has walked the path I tread?
The One who formed both time and place
Now leads me on with truth and grace.

Why should I fear the stormy wave,
When Christ is near, His hand to save?
Though winds may howl and shadows fall,
His whisper stills them all in all.

Why should I fear what others say,
When God’s own Word will guide my way?
Their voices fade, but His remains—
A song of peace in all my pains.

Why should I fear the loss, the lack,
When all I need, He won’t hold back?
The sparrows sing, the lilies grow—
And so will I, because He knows.

Why should I fear the end of days,
When heaven waits with open gates?
The grave is not the end for me—
My Savior holds eternity.

So let the night fall where it will,
My heart is calm, my soul is still.
For He is near, my Shepherd, Friend—
Why should I fear what He can mend?
