Jesus Righteousness

Here’s a devotional reflection built around the theme “Jesus Righteousness Has Been Credited to Our Account.”

Devotion: Jesus Righteousness Credited to Us

Scripture Foundation

  • 2 Corinthians 5:21“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
  • Romans 4:22–24“This is why ‘it was credited to him as righteousness.’ The words ‘it was credited to him’ were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.”

Reflection

In our daily lives, we know the burden of falling short—whether in thought, word, or deed. We often try to “balance the scales” by doing better, giving more, or working harder. But before the holy standard of God, even our best efforts are like “filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).

The gospel speaks a better word. Through faith in Christ, God has taken the righteousness of Jesus—His perfect obedience, His sinless life, His complete fulfillment of the law—and placed it into our account. Just as surely as your paycheck shows up in your bank balance, Christ’s righteousness shows up in your spiritual account.

This means when the Father looks at you, He doesn’t see your failures, but He sees the perfection of His Son. You stand not condemned, but fully accepted. Not in debt, but credited with eternal riches.

This truth brings freedom:

  • Freedom from striving to earn God’s love.
  • Freedom from guilt’s heavy chain.
  • Freedom to live joyfully and confidently in Christ.

Illustration

Imagine someone paying off not only your debts but also depositing unlimited funds into your account. You would never fear bankruptcy again. That’s what Jesus has done spiritually—He has erased our sin-debt and filled our lives with His perfect righteousness.

Prayer

Father, thank You that my standing with You does not depend on my works but on Christ’s finished work. Thank You for crediting His righteousness to my account. Teach me to live out of this truth today—with confidence, with joy, and with gratitude. Help me rest in what Jesus has done, not in what I do. Amen.

Life Application

  • When guilt or shame arises, remind yourself: “I am clothed in Christ’s righteousness.”
  • Approach prayer with confidence, knowing you come not in your merit, but in Christ’s.
  • Extend grace to others, remembering that you yourself stand only because of grace credited to you.

Takeaway: You are rich in Christ. His righteousness is not earned—it’s credited. Walk today as one who is fully accepted in Him.

Here’s a poetic devotion on the theme “Jesus’ Righteousness Has Been Credited to Our Account.”

✨ Poem: Credited Righteousness

I brought my rags of failure near,
A record stained with guilt and fear.
Heaven’s record showed a list of sin,
A weight I could not pay, nor win.

But then the Savior, pure and true,
Took all my sin, both old and new.
He bore the cost upon the tree,
And clothed my soul in purity.

Now heaven’s books record my name,
Not marked with loss, but Christ’s own gain.
His righteousness, a gift profound,
Credited where my fault was found.

No striving now, no fear, no shame,
I stand secure in Jesus’ name.
For when the Father looks at me,
He sees His Son’s integrity.

So I will live in grace today,
Debts erased, my heart can say:
“Not I, but Christ, my life, my song—
In Him alone I now belong.”
